Kip Williams

Kip Williams is a celebrated Australian theater and opera director, writer, and artistic leader best known for pioneering “cine‑theatre” -- a seamless fusion of live performance and real‑time video.

A graduate of the University of Sydney and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Williams joined the Sydney Theatre Company (STC) in 2012, ascending to Artistic Director and Co‑CEO in 2016 at the age of 30, the youngest in the company’s history. There, he helmed numerous acclaimed productions. His Gothic trilogy -- "The Picture of Dorian Gray," "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde," and "Dracula" -- has garnered international attention. The West End run of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" won multiple Olivier Awards and transferred to Broadway in 2025. That production was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Direction of a Play for Williams.

Williams’s tenure at STC was marked by bold reinterpretations of classics -- from "Suddenly Last Summer" to "Miss Julie," "The Harp in the South" to "Jekyll and Hyde" -- accumulating Helpmann, Green Room, and Sydney Theatre Awards along the way. He also directed opera, festivals, and a range of international work.

In 2024, Williams stepped down from his STC leadership role to focus on the Broadway transfer and new adaptations, including "Dracula" and potential screen ventures
