Kip Tindell

Kip Tindell is the co-founder and retired chairman and CEO of The Container Store, a retail company specializing in storage and organization solutions. Tindell and his partners identified a market need for products such as metal crates, stackable wicker baskets, and lucite canisters, establishing a new retail category focused on helping customers organize and simplify their lives. Under Tindell's leadership, The Container Store expanded to more than 80 stores nationwide, offering over 10,000 products designed to save space and time. The company is recognized for its employee-first culture and commitment to customer service.

Tindell formalized a set of guiding values known as The Container Store's Foundation Principles, which continue to influence the company's culture and decision-making. These principles, rooted in the tenets of conscious capitalism, emphasize values-based leadership and stakeholder interdependence. The Container Store has received recognition for its unique inventory, original retail concept, and dedication to its workforce, including repeated inclusion on Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work For."

Tindell is an advocate for conscious capitalism and outlines his business philosophy in the book "Uncontainable: How Passion, Commitment, and Conscious Capitalism Built a Business Where Everyone Thrives." The book details his approach to building a sustainable and profitable business guided by foundational values. Tindell serves on the boards of Whole Foods Market, the Akola Project, and Conscious Capitalism, Inc., contributing to the movement for ethical and purpose-driven business practices.

Throughout his career, Tindell has received several honors in the retail industry, including Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year, the National Retail Federation's Innovator of the Year and Gold Medal Award, and induction into the Retailing Hall of Fame, Dallas Business Hall of Fame, and World Retail Hall of Fame. He is a past chairman of the National Retail Federation and serves on its board and executive committee, as well as on the boards of Conscious Capitalism, Inc., JUST Capital, and the Southwestern Medical Foundation.
