Kelsey Timmerman is a New York Times bestselling author, journalist, and public speaker known for exploring the human stories behind global commerce, sustainability, and globalization. With a background in anthropology, Timmerman has reported from more than 60 countries, focusing on the social and environmental challenges connected to consumer products and supply chains.
Timmerman first gained recognition with the book "Where Am I Wearing?: A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories, and People That Make Our Clothes," which examines the connection between garment workers' living conditions and consumer habits. He continued this exploration in "Where Am I Eating?: An Adventure Through the Global Food Economy," working alongside farmers and fishermen in countries such as Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ivory Coast, Colombia, and the United States to highlight the realities of the global food system. In "Where Am I Giving?: A Global Adventure Exploring How to Use Your Gifts and Talents to Make a Difference," Timmerman investigates the impact of giving and volunteering in communities worldwide, from Indiana to Myanmar, Kenya, India, and Nepal.
In "Regenerating Earth: Farmers Working with Nature to Feed Our Future," Timmerman documents regenerative agriculture practices by traveling from Indiana to the Amazon, Hawaii, Kenya, and Georgia. The book explores how regenerative farming can build soil health, strengthen communities, and address climate change, emphasizing the interconnectedness of food choices, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
Beyond his books, Timmerman co-founded The Facing Project, a national nonprofit that connects people through storytelling to strengthen communities. The organization has engaged writers, artists, educators, and community leaders in more than 100 communities and archived over 1,500 stories. Timmerman also serves as an assistant teaching professor at Ball State University. His work has appeared in Christian Science Monitor, Condé Nast Portfolio, and TIME Magazine.
As a public speaker, Timmerman addresses topics such as global supply chains, ethical consumerism, and sustainability at universities, high schools, and conferences across the United States. He has received the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award and the Indiana Journalism Award from Ball State University. Through immersive storytelling, Timmerman connects audiences to the people and places behind everyday products, fostering a deeper understanding of global issues.
