Kelsey McKinney, a New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling reporter and writer, has built a diverse portfolio of work across various platforms. McKinney made her debut in literature with "God Spare the Girls," published in the summer of 2021. In addition to her novel, she has proven her prowess in non-fiction writing with her first essay collection "You Didn’t Hear This From Me," published by Grand Central Publishing in February 2025.
Beyond her written work, McKinney has also made significant contributions in the world of podcasting. She was the founding host of the podcast "Normal Gossip," launched in September 2021 with producer Alex Sujong Laughlin. Despite her departure from the podcast in December 2024, the show had already earned critical and popular acclaim under her stewardship.
In addition to her established career at Defector.com, where she is a co-owner and features writer, McKinney selectively undertakes freelance projects.
