Kelly Olynyk

Kelly Olynyk is a Canadian professional basketball player known for his size, skill, and basketball intelligence, contributing to his reputation as a versatile big man in the NBA. Olynyk developed his basketball foundation at South Kamloops Secondary School before playing at Gonzaga University, where he averaged 17.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and earned consensus First Team All-American honors. His collegiate career included a redshirt year, during which he focused on training and skill development, returning as a significantly improved player. Olynyk led the Bulldogs to their first No. 1 national ranking and was recognized as a Consensus First-Team All-American, West Coast Conference Player of the Year, and First-Team Academic All-American.

Selected 13th overall in the NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks, Olynyk’s rights were traded to the Boston Celtics, where he began his professional basketball career and earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team recognition. He has played for several NBA teams, including the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, Utah Jazz, and Toronto Raptors. Olynyk became the fourth Canadian-born player to score 6,000 career points in NBA history. His NBA career is marked by versatility, shooting ability, and a high basketball IQ.

Olynyk has also been a significant contributor to Canadian basketball on the international stage. He debuted with the Senior Men's National Team at the FIBA World Championship at age 19, the youngest member of the Canadian team at the time. Olynyk served as captain of Canada’s bronze medal-winning team at the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup, the country's first medal at the tournament, and played a key role in the team’s overtime victory over the United States in the third-place game. He was also named captain of Canada’s team for the Summer Olympics in Paris.
