In her first year on the professional tour, Adams advanced to the Round of 16 in singles at Wimbledon.
Adams served as president, chairman, and CEO of the United States Tennis Association for two consecutive terms, becoming the only Black woman and the youngest person to hold the position in the organization's history. During her tenure, she oversaw the completion of the five-year, $600 million transformation of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., and the opening of the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. In addition to her USTA leadership, Adams was elected vice president of the International Tennis Federation and appointed chairman of the Fed Cup Committee and the Gender Equality in Tennis Committee. She was later elected honorary life vice president of the International Tennis Federation.
