Katie S. Martin

Dr. Katie S. Martin is a nationally recognized expert in food security and systems change, with more than 25 years of experience designing and evaluating programs that promote dignity, health, and long-term stability for individuals facing hunger. She is the founder and CEO of More Than Food Consulting, where she partners with organizations to transform the charitable food system by addressing the root causes of hunger and promoting equity and economic opportunity.

She is the author of Reinventing Food Banks and Pantries: New Tools to End Hunger, a widely acclaimed book that challenges traditional food assistance models and presents practical strategies for creating client-centered, empowering solutions. Her work focuses on shifting from short-term food transactions to long-term, transformative change that supports the overall well-being of individuals and communities.

Dr. Martin has collaborated with food banks, food pantries, and community organizations across the country to implement innovative programs that prioritize client choice, improve access to nutritious food, and connect individuals with essential resources. She has also held academic roles, including Director of the B.S. in Public Health program at the University of Saint Joseph, and has conducted extensive research on food insecurity and public health.

She earned her Ph.D. in Nutrition Science and Policy from Tufts University. A sought-after speaker, Dr. Martin frequently presents at conferences and events nationwide, sharing insights on food justice, systems thinking, and community empowerment.

In addition to her professional work, she serves on the boards and advisory groups for several national and local organizations focused on food access and health equity. Dr. Martin lives in Connecticut with her husband and two sons and enjoys live music, family time, and staying active through various sports.
