Katie Phang

Katie Phang is an attorney, legal analyst, and television host known for her expertise in legal journalism and her ability to translate complex courtroom proceedings into accessible commentary. Phang earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Yale University and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law. She began her legal career as an assistant state attorney in Miami-Dade County and developed a multifaceted practice in commercial litigation, family law, criminal defense, and special investigations. She holds the AV-Preeminent Rating in litigation, bankruptcy, criminal law, and family law, and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer and Top Lawyer in corporate and business law.

Phang has been named a 40 Under 40 Rising Star by American Law Media/Daily Business Review, a Leader in the Law by the State Florida Association for Women Lawyers, and a Florida Super Lawyer. She has taught litigation skills and received the University of Miami Law Alumni Association Leadership Award. Outside the courtroom, Phang has served as vice president for Dress for Success and chairs the Miami-Dade Florida Association for Women Lawyers Foundation. She is an advocate for diversity in the legal profession and media.

Phang joined NBCUniversal News Group as a legal analyst, expanding her presence in legal and political commentary. She appeared with Kevin O'Leary and Ada Pozo on CNBC's "Money Court," adjudicating financial disputes. She hosted "The Katie Phang Show" on MSNBC and Peacock, which covered the intersection of law, politics, and culture on a national level. Phang also hosted "Class Action," a documentary podcast following competitive mock trial teams, and the MSNBC special "The Culture Is: AAPI Women."

Phang provided coverage from inside the New York City courthouse during a major presidential hush money trial, using her trial experience to create accessible analysis and explore legal strategy. She has highlighted the importance of platforming AAPI voices in cable news.

After "The Katie Phang Show" concluded, Phang transitioned to independent media, launching the YouTube channel "Katie Phang News," which features legal analysis, interviews, and commentary on political and legal issues. She also shares insights and interviews on Substack. With extensive courtroom experience and a commitment to making legal issues understandable to broad audiences, Phang remains a prominent voice at the intersection of law, politics, and culture.
