Karla Souza

Karla Souza is a Mexican actress and producer whose career spans Latin American and Hollywood productions. Souza built a foundation in the performing arts by training in France's professional theater circuit, completing an intensive acting course in Moscow, and earning a Bachelor of Arts in Acting from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Near the end of her studies in London, she received the CCP Award, traditionally presented to a promising actress in the city. Returning to Mexico, Souza starred in three of the country's highest-grossing films, including "Nosotros Los Nobles," recognized as the highest-grossing film in Mexican film history, and "Instructions Not Included," which became the highest-grossing Spanish-language film to open in the United States.

Souza's transition to American television began with her role on ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder," a legal thriller produced by Shonda Rhimes. Souza portrayed Laurel Castillo, an idealistic law student, across five seasons and 78 episodes. During the show's run, she received the National Hispanic Media Coalition's Outstanding Performance in a Television Series recognition. Souza later appeared in the Prime Video series "El Presidente," playing Rosario, an FBI agent investigating the FIFA corruption scandal.

Souza continued to expand her range across both industries, starring as Marina on ABC's "Home Economics" and appearing alongside Jamie Foxx in Netflix's "Day Shift." She produced and starred in the Amazon Prime Video sports drama "Dive" (also known as "La Caída"), earning two International Emmy Awards for her work. Souza also appeared in the Netflix series "México 86," portraying journalist Susana Gómez-Mont, and in the Amazon series "56 Days" as Detective Lee Reardon.

In addition to her work in film and television, Souza is an advocate for women's rights and gender equality. She publicly disclosed her experience as a survivor of sexual assault, contributing to the #MeToo movement in Mexico. Souza was appointed as a National Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women in Mexico, focusing on raising awareness about preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls, care work, and promoting opportunities for women in media and sports. Fluent in Spanish, English, and French, Souza continues to work across major entertainment industries, contributing to both artistic projects and advocacy initiatives.
