Karissa Bodnar

Karissa Bodnar is the founder and CEO of Thrive Causemetics, a direct-to-consumer vegan beauty brand focused on clean, clinically proven, solution-based products. Bodnar began her career as a makeup artist at Sephora at age 18 and later worked as a marketing assistant at a company acquired by L'Oréal. She gained experience as a makeup artist, product developer, and formulator for major beauty brands, including the luxury division at L'Oréal.

After losing her close friend Kristy to cancer, Bodnar was inspired to create beauty products safe for everyone, including those who are immunocompromised. She left L'Oréal to establish Thrive Causemetics, initially self-funding the business and developing formulas in her apartment. The company's first product was false eyelashes and lash glue designed for individuals with or without natural lashes. Thrive Causemetics quickly grew, generating significant annual revenue in the competitive beauty industry.

Thrive Causemetics is known for its "Bigger Than Beauty" giving mission, donating products and funds to a wide range of causes such as education, cancer support, homelessness, social justice, and LGBTQ+ initiatives. The company has contributed over $135 million to more than 500 nonprofit partners worldwide. Bodnar also launched a sister skincare line, Bigger Than Beauty, and expanded operations to Bellevue and Los Angeles.

Bodnar has been recognized by Forbes, Marie Claire, Inc., and Good Housekeeping for her work in entrepreneurship and purpose-driven leadership. She has appeared on TODAY, Good Morning America, CBS, and FOX. Bodnar is a frequent speaker on topics including beauty industry innovation, philanthropy, and mission-driven business.
