K'Andre Miller

K'Andre Miller is a professional ice hockey defenseman known for his role as a top-four blue-liner in the National Hockey League. Miller transitioned from forward to defenseman in high school, a move that shaped his hockey career. He joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, competing in the United States Hockey League and international tournaments such as the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and World U18 Championships. Miller was selected in the first round, 22nd overall, by the New York Rangers in the NHL Entry Draft after the team traded up to secure his selection.

Before turning professional, Miller played collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where he was named to the Big Ten Conference All-Rookie Team and twice earned HCA National Rookie of the Month honors. He concluded his college career after two seasons, signing an entry-level contract with the Rangers and recording 40 points in 62 NCAA games. Miller's NHL debut was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but upon joining the Rangers, he became a key member of the team's young core, regularly logging over 20 minutes of ice time per game and earning NHL All-Rookie Team honors. In 53 games, Miller led all rookie defensemen with five goals and 77 blocked shots, and ranked second among all rookies in average ice time.

Miller has addressed challenges related to racism in hockey, speaking openly about his experiences as one of the few Black players on his teams and his commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the sport. He has become a prominent voice for equity within professional hockey.

During his tenure with the Rangers, Miller accumulated 174 points in 368 regular-season games and maintained a plus-minus rating of +66. He has also won a Stanley Cup as a player. Miller was later traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he signed an eight-year, $60 million contract. Internationally, Miller represented the United States at consecutive World Junior Championships, earning a silver medal and serving as an alternate captain while leading American defensemen in ice time. Standing at 6-foot-5, Miller is recognized for his skating ability and defensive skills, making him a significant figure in the NHL and a leader in advancing diversity in ice hockey.
