Justin Chatwin

Justin Chatwin is a Canadian actor whose career spans film and television, with roles across genres including action, drama, science fiction, and independent cinema. Born and raised on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Chatwin began acting after attending an audition on a dare at age 18. He later left university after one semester to pursue acting full time.

Early in his career, Chatwin was recognized by Newsweek as an actor to watch for his performance as Tyler McKay in the miniseries "Traffic." He gained further attention for his role as Tom Cruise's son in the alien invasion film "War of the Worlds," directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel by H. G. Wells. The film was a commercial success, and Chatwin received the Breakthrough of the Year Award from Hollywood Life Magazine. He continued with roles in "The Chumscrubber," a black comedy that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, the supernatural thriller "The Invisible," and as Goku in the action-adventure film "Dragonball Evolution," based on the Japanese manga.

Chatwin's first regular television role was as Jimmy Lishman on the Showtime comedy-drama "Shameless," based on the UK series. He appeared alongside William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum, and the role became a defining chapter in his career. Critics noted his screen presence and versatility in the series.

In addition to mainstream projects, Chatwin has appeared in independent films such as "Funkytown," where he played an Italian dancer; "Bang Bang Baby," a sci-fi musical that earned him a Canadian Screen Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actor; "Unleashed," a romantic comedy; "The Scent of Rain and Lightning," a western; and "The Assassin's Code," a crime thriller. "Bang Bang Baby" won Best Canadian First Feature Film at the Toronto International Film Festival. Chatwin also portrayed superhero Grant Gordon / The Ghost in "The Return of Doctor Mysterio," a Christmas special of the science fiction series "Doctor Who."

Chatwin starred as scientist Erik Wallace in the Netflix series "Another Life." His motorcycle journey from Vancouver to Patagonia was featured in the documentary series "No Good Reason," which he also executive produced. In addition to his acting career, Chatwin is known for his interest in conservation, international motorcycle travel, and the outdoors, which inform his approach to his work in the entertainment industry.
