Junior Caminero

Junior Alberto Caminero Sánchez is a Dominican professional baseball third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball. Caminero signed with the Cleveland Indians as an international free agent and was later traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Tobias Myers. He advanced quickly through the minor leagues, beginning with the High-A Bowling Green Hot Rods before earning a promotion to the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits after posting a .356 batting average, 11 home runs, 32 RBI, and 30 runs scored in 36 games. Caminero was selected to play in the All-Star Futures Game and recorded a .309 average with 20 home runs and 62 RBI in 81 games for Montgomery. He was named the Southern League MVP following his time with Double-A Montgomery.

Caminero made his Major League Baseball debut with the Rays, recording his first career hit with a 112-mph single, the hardest-hit ball by a player age 20 or younger in several seasons. Despite early injury setbacks, including quad injuries that sidelined him during his first full season, Caminero returned to post 45 home runs, 110 RBI, and 4.5 WAR at age 21, establishing himself as a significant power threat and a key player for the Tampa Bay Rays. His 45 home runs at age 21 surpassed the totals of other prominent young power hitters in MLB history, including Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols at the same age.

Caminero's season included notable performances, such as recording two doubles, two home runs, and five RBI in a single game against the Houston Astros, becoming the first player in Tampa Bay Rays history to achieve this feat. Internationally, Caminero played for Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Winter League, contributing to the club's league title and earning championship series MVP honors after hitting a decisive home run in Game 7. Caminero was named to consecutive MLB All-Star Games and became the first player in Tampa Bay history to start consecutive All-Star Games.

Caminero continued to reach milestones, including winning the AL Player of the Month Award for June after hitting .327 with 10 home runs and 24 RBI. At age 22, he became the youngest player to hit a home run in six straight games, surpassing Ken Griffey Jr., and was the first under-24 player in league history to record at least 11 home runs and 22 RBI in any 11-game stretch. Off the field, Caminero earned a bronze medal with the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic and served as a player correspondent for MLB Español during the World Series, providing behind-the-scenes content and interviews. Known by his nickname La Máxima, Caminero is recognized as a leading figure among young Dominican talent in Major League Baseball.
