Julia Mancuso

Julia Mancuso is an American retired World Cup alpine ski racer and a four-time Olympian whose competitive career spanned nearly two decades, producing medals at every level of the sport. Mancuso captured more major event medals than any other American woman, with nine total—four Olympic and five World Championship medals.

Mancuso's ascent in alpine skiing was marked by resilience and consistent performance. While she initially faced challenges in World Cup races, she achieved significant success at the Junior World Championships, winning a record eight medals, including five golds. Prior to her Olympic breakthrough, Mancuso had not won a World Cup race, but she secured the giant slalom gold medal at the Turin Winter Olympics. This victory marked the first Olympic gold for an American woman in giant slalom since Debbie Armstrong and led to a ski run at Squaw Valley Ski Resort being renamed Julia's Gold.

Throughout her career, Mancuso overcame significant physical setbacks, including surgery to correct hip dysplasia, after which she won her first World Cup race and finished the season in third place overall—the best finish for an American female skier in decades. At the Vancouver Games, she claimed two silver medals despite recent injuries. She added a bronze medal at the Sochi Olympics, making her the only American woman to earn Olympic medals in every color: gold, silver, and bronze.

Known for her distinctive style and ability to perform under pressure, Mancuso wore a tiara on the podium during her Olympic victories. She launched her own lingerie line, Kiss My Tiara, and has been quoted as saying, "I think underwear is my calling. You can be feminine and fast." Her achievements and personality led to appearances in commercial campaigns, including a VISA animated feature and a GoPro promotional video.

After retiring from competitive skiing, Mancuso transitioned into roles as a broadcaster, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker. She contributed as an on-site reporter and analyst for NBC Olympics, providing insights on alpine events across platforms such as The Olympic Zone. Mancuso also launched the podcast "Just Be Yourself with Julia Mancuso," focusing on self-expression, personal growth, mental health, and overcoming challenges. She is involved with Akova, a direct-to-consumer outdoor brand, and supports ski clubs worldwide through a team uniforms program. Mancuso continues to emphasize resilience, perseverance, and team dynamics in her work with corporate and athletic audiences.
