Judd Gregg

Judd Gregg has held leadership roles in both state and federal government, serving as the 76th Governor of New Hampshire and as a United States Senator from New Hampshire. In the Senate, Gregg chaired the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and the Budget Committee. Prior to his Senate tenure, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served on the House Committee on Government Operations, the Committee on Science and Technology, and the Ways and Means Committee. As governor, Gregg prioritized fiscal discipline, balancing the state budget and leaving office with a budget surplus.

Gregg is recognized for his expertise in fiscal policy, budgetary matters, and economic and financial regulatory issues. He served three terms in the Senate and was the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. Gregg played a key role in the development and passage of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, contributing to bipartisan efforts on financial reform. His work on banking issues and derivatives reform established him as a significant participant in regulatory debates.

Gregg was a member of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, a body modeled after legislation he introduced with Senator Kent Conrad. The commission produced a debt-reduction plan that has been cited as an example of bipartisan compromise on tax and spending policy. Gregg also secured federal funding for the University of New Hampshire, resulting in the naming of Gregg Hall, and was instrumental in establishing the Judd Gregg Meteorology Institute at Plymouth State University, which is known for meteorological research and education.

After his Senate career, Gregg continued to contribute to national economic policy. He served as an international advisor to Goldman Sachs, providing counsel on global business development and policy. Gregg later became chief executive officer of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, representing broker-dealers, investment banks, and asset managers, and advocating for regulatory reforms, including changes to the Dodd-Frank Act. He also co-chairs the Campaign to Fix the Debt, a nonpartisan initiative focused on reducing the national debt and promoting fiscal responsibility. Gregg’s experience at the intersection of politics, finance, and public policy informs his perspective on economic challenges in the United States.
