Joyce Wrice

Joyce Wrice is an American R&B singer-songwriter recognized for her soulful voice and a sound that blends nostalgic and contemporary R&B. Known for her fusion of R&B and neo soul, Wrice gained recognition with her debut studio album, "Overgrown." She began her music career by posting covers and original songs on platforms such as YouTube and SoundCloud, gradually building a following before releasing her debut EP, "Stay Around," which established her presence in the independent music scene. Wrice initially planned to become a special needs educator but moved to Los Angeles to pursue music, working as a hostess at a Japanese restaurant until transitioning to a full-time musician.

"Overgrown" was executive produced by Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer D'Mile and features collaborations with Freddie Gibbs, Lucky Daye, KAYTRANADA, Masego, Westside Gunn, UMI, and Devin Morrison. The album was noted for its cohesive production, reminiscent of classic R&B, and Wrice's emotive vocals. The lead single, "On One," achieved significant streaming numbers and radio play. "Overgrown" was included in Rated R&B's 30 Best R&B Albums and received praise from Rolling Stone and Teen Vogue.

Wrice has delivered live performances supporting Lucky Daye on his North American Candydrip Tour and appeared at festivals across the United States and Europe, including Day N Vegas, Sol Blume, Broccoli City, and Summer Walker's A Hot Summer Night in LA. She also became the theme song vocalist for "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder" on Disney+. Wrice earned a nomination alongside producer KAYTRANADA at the Juno Awards.

Her follow-up project, the experimental "Motive" EP, expanded her sound and included production from KAYTRANADA. Wrice made her debut on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series, performing songs from "Motive" and "Overgrown." She was featured on Blxst's "Better Off Friends" from his album "I'll Always Come Find You" and joined him as a special guest on tour.

Wrice's music is characterized by smooth vocal delivery, soulful melodies, and a fusion of '90s R&B with contemporary influences, drawing inspiration from artists such as Aaliyah, Brandy, and Usher. Her lyrics often explore themes of vulnerability, empowerment, and love.
