Joy Sunday

Joy Sunday is a Nigerian-American actress, director, and producer known for her work in film, television, and audiobook narration. Sunday completed theater training at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts with an honors degree in critical studies. She began her acting career with short films such as "Embody" and "Darling," where she also served as director and producer. Sunday made her television debut in an episode of "MacGyver" and joined the Screen Actors Guild with her performance in "Bad Hair." She appeared as Sophia in Cooper Raiff's directorial debut film "Shithouse," had a role in the Netflix series "Dear White People," and appeared in "The Beta Test" and "Dog."

Sunday's breakout role came in the Netflix series "Wednesday," produced by Tim Burton, where she portrays Bianca Barclay, a siren and rival to Wednesday Addams. The series features Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Gwendoline Christie. "Wednesday" became one of the most viewed English-language series on Netflix. Bianca Barclay marked Sunday's first main character role in a television series, and her portrayal of the character's evolution from guarded and competitive to vulnerable and self-aware contributed to the show's success. The character's journey explores themes of identity, family dynamics, and personal growth within the supernatural drama genre.

Sunday continues to portray Bianca Barclay across multiple seasons of "Wednesday," further developing the character's complexity. She has spoken publicly about the challenges faced by Black actors in Hollywood and has advocated for greater representation in major roles. Sunday's work extends beyond acting; she has produced several short films and has experience in audiobook narration, showcasing her versatility in the entertainment industry.

Sunday has also served as a global ambassador for the cosmetics brand Lancôme and joined the cast of the HBO limited dark comedy series "DTF St. Louis," alongside Jason Bateman, David Harbour, and Linda Cardellini. Her performance in the series earned her an Emmy nomination.
