Joshua Henry

Joshua Henry is a Canadian-American actor, singer, and recording artist known for his work in musical theater and Broadway. Henry studied theater at the University of Miami and made his Broadway debut in "In the Heights." For "In the Heights," the entire cast received a Drama Desk Award, and Henry and the ensemble earned an ACCA Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus from Actors' Equity Association. He progressed from ensemble roles to leading performances that have shaped contemporary Broadway.

Henry earned his first Tony Award nomination for his portrayal of Haywood Patterson in "The Scottsboro Boys." He later received additional Tony nominations for his roles in "Violet" opposite Sutton Foster and as Billy Bigelow in the Broadway revival of "Carousel." His performance in "Violet" also brought nominations from the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League Awards. Henry is also recognized for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in "Hamilton" in Los Angeles and for his role as Roger Bart in the Academy Award-nominated film "tick, tick… BOOM!" directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. He performed as Gaston in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration" live on ABC.

Henry, often referred to as "the Baritenor of Broadway" for his vocal range, has established a career as a recording artist. His debut album, "Grow," is available on streaming platforms, and his second studio album followed. He has opened for Diana Ross at the Hollywood Bowl and performed with Common at the Kennedy Center. Henry won a Grammy Award for his work as a principal vocalist on the Broadway revival cast recording of "Into the Woods."

Henry's performance as Coalhouse Walker, Jr. in the Tony-winning revival of "Ragtime" earned him his first Tony Award win. He won the Tony on his fourth nomination and also received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for the role. The production received 11 Tony Award nominations, the second-highest of any show in its season, and also won Tony Awards for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical and Best Musical Revival. Henry continues to expand his creative pursuits, including developing the original musical "The Conversation" with Julia Hariman, contributing to the evolution of musical theater and Broadway.
