Joshua Bassett is an Emmy Award-winning actor, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose career spans television, film, music, and the stage. His first introduction to musical theater came at age 8, when he appeared in a community theater production of "High School Musical on Stage!," and he went on to star in more than 30 musical productions before working in television. Bassett moved to Los Angeles at 16 years old to start acting, living in his car for some time to get by, demonstrating determination and resilience throughout his career. He appeared in episodic roles in "Lethal Weapon," "Game Shakers," and "Dirty John" before landing his first substantial role as Aidan Peters in the third and final season of the Disney Channel comedy series "Stuck in the Middle."
Bassett rose to prominence for his leading role as high school student Ricky Bowen in the Disney+ streaming series "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" and for its accompanying soundtracks, for which he was nominated for two Children's and Family Emmy Awards, winning one. Throughout the series, he wrote and produced four original songs, including the duet "Just for a Moment" with co-star Olivia Rodrigo, the holiday song "The Perfect Gift," "Finally Free" for the third season, and "Speak Out" for the fourth soundtrack. Bassett also won two Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for his role. Beyond the series, he starred in a supporting role as Anthony in the Disney+ original musical comedy film "Better Nate Than Ever" and led the voice cast in "Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again."
An Emmy Award-winning musician and multi-instrumentalist, Bassett began his music career by playing drums in church, teaching himself ukulele, guitar, and piano, and writing his first song at 15 years old. He was signed to Warner Records and subsequently released four extended plays. His self-titled debut EP features five tracks he wrote and co-produced, and he played six instruments throughout the body of work. Billboard recognized his rising profile by placing him in its Billboard 21 Under 21 list, representing rising artists in the music industry under the age of 21. His debut album, "The Golden Years," marked his expansion as a recording artist and was followed by a world tour.
Bassett made his New York stage debut as Seymour in the Off-Broadway production of "Little Shop of Horrors" at The Westside Theatre. The role earned him recognition and helped further launch his parallel musical career under Warner Records. With a career that bridges acting, songwriting, and live performance, Bassett is recognized as a versatile talent in the entertainment industry.
