Joseph Baratta

Joseph Baratta is a leader in global private equity, serving as the global head of Blackstone Private Equity Strategies and a member of Blackstone's board of directors. He is also a member of the firm's management committee and serves on several of the firm's investment committees. Baratta began his career in investment banking at Morgan Stanley's mergers and acquisitions department, followed by roles at private equity firms McCown De Leeuw & Co. and Tinicum Incorporated before joining Blackstone. He graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University, providing the academic foundation for his career in alternative asset management.

Baratta joined Blackstone in 1998 and later moved to London to help establish Blackstone's corporate private equity business in Europe. He became a senior managing director and head of European private equity, and was later named global head of private equity. Baratta has led investments in companies such as SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, Merlin Entertainments—the owner of Legoland theme parks, the London Eye, and Madame Tussauds—Center Parcs, and Southern Cross. He has also played a role in Blackstone's investments in Universal Orlando, Nycomed Pharmaceuticals, Houghton Mifflin, and Spirit Group.

Baratta has overseen private equity teams managing more than $200 billion in assets globally. He has been recognized in Forbes' "Top 50 Dealmakers" list and has appeared on Bloomberg TV and at forums such as the Milken Institute Global Conference, where he has discussed dealmaking, capital deployment, and the evolving macro environment.

Baratta is involved in civic and philanthropic initiatives, serving as a member or observer on the boards of Ancestry, Candle Media, First Eagle Investment Management, Medline, and Merlin Entertainments Group. He is a member of the board of trustees of Georgetown University, a trustee of the Tate Foundation, and serves on the board of Year Up, an organization focused on youth employment. Baratta and his wife, Abigail, were inducted into Year Up's Opportunity Hall of Fame in recognition of their support for equitable access to economic opportunities. He also serves on the advisory board of the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, where a center for global business education bears his name, reflecting his impact on finance and business education.
