Jordan Clarkson

Jordan Clarkson is a Filipino-American professional basketball player recognized for his progression from a second-round NBA draft pick to NBA champion. After forgoing his senior year in college to enter the NBA Draft, Clarkson was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 46th overall pick and was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. In his first year, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, a distinction rarely achieved by second-round selections. On March 24, Clarkson and Jeremy Lin became the first Asian-American starting backcourt in NBA history.

Following his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Clarkson played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Utah Jazz, where he established himself as one of the NBA's leading bench scorers. He averaged a career-high 18.4 points per game in one season and led the league with 203 three-pointers off the bench, earning the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. Clarkson was the first Utah Jazz player to receive this honor. He later recorded a career-high 45 points on 15-for-21 shooting in a victory against the Sacramento Kings. Known for his scoring ability and versatility as both a point guard and shooting guard, Clarkson has consistently demonstrated proficiency in perimeter shooting and offensive versatility.

After reaching a buyout agreement with the Utah Jazz, Clarkson joined the New York Knicks. The move contributed to the Knicks' success, including a victory over the Spurs in the NBA Cup championship game. Clarkson became the first Filipino-American player to win an NBA championship, helping the Knicks secure their first title in over five decades.

Beyond his NBA career, Clarkson has played a significant role in Philippine basketball. He became the face of Philippine basketball on the international stage, representing Gilas Pilipinas in the Asian Games and the FIBA Basketball World Cup. In the World Cup, which the Philippines co-hosted, Clarkson delivered standout performances, including a 34-point game in a win over China, and averaged 24.0 points, 6.7 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. For many Filipino fans, Clarkson represents both national pride and the potential for Filipino athletes to compete at the highest level of professional basketball.
