Jonathan Tepperman

Jonathan Tepperman is a journalist, author, editor, and expert on international affairs and geopolitics. After studying English and law, Tepperman joined Foreign Affairs as a junior editor, later serving as deputy editor of Newsweek's international edition, and then returned to Foreign Affairs as managing editor. He also served as editor-in-chief of Foreign Policy. Tepperman holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Yale, a Master of Arts in Law from Oxford, and a Master of Laws from New York University. His academic background and early experience as a speechwriter at the United Nations and as a foreign correspondent established the foundation for his career in international journalism.

Throughout his career, Tepperman has reported from more than a dozen countries and held editorial roles at Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, and Foreign Policy. At Newsweek, he was deputy editor for the international edition, overseeing coverage of Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, and contributed cover stories, opinion pieces, and a style column. Tepperman writes regularly for publications including The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal, focusing on global politics, foreign policy, and international relations.

Tepperman is the author of the book "The Fix: How Countries Use Crises to Solve the World's Worst Problems." The book examines major challenges such as immigration reform, economic stagnation, political gridlock, corruption, and terrorism, and presents real-world policy solutions. "The Fix" was long-listed for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award. Tepperman is also the co-editor of several Foreign Affairs anthologies, including "The U.S. vs. al Qaeda," "Iran and the Bomb," and "The Clash of Ideas."

Tepperman regularly conducts interviews with global leaders, including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Turkish President Abdullah Gül, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, and U.S. Senator John McCain. He serves as vice president for the International Program at Carnegie Corporation of New York, and has previously been a senior fellow at the George W. Bush Institute and editor-in-chief of its publication, The Catalyst. Tepperman is vice chairman of the Halifax International Security Forum, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a fellow of the New York Institute of Humanities.
