Jonathan Karl Biography
Jonathan Karl is the Chief Washington Correspondent for ABC News and the co-anchor of “This Week.” The former president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, Karl is the author of four New York Times bestsellers, "Front Row at the Trump Show," "Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show," "Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party," and "Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign that Changed America."
Karl has won numerous journalism awards, including two Walter Cronkite Awards: for National Individual Achievement (2013) and Excellence in TV Political Journalism (2023); several Emmy awards, and the White House Correspondents’ Association Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage under Deadline Pressure in 2020 and 2021. Mediaite named Karl one of the top 10 "Most Influential in News Media" in 2021. Karl served as the Chief White House Correspondent for ABC News from December 2012 through the end of the Trump administration in January 2021.
He has served as ABC's Chief Political Correspondent (2009-2012), Chief National Security Correspondent (2006-2008), and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent (2004-2006). He has reported from more than 30 countries.
Before joining ABC News, Karl worked for eight years as a CNN Correspondent covering Congress, national politics, and the White House. His writing has appeared in numerous publications, including The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, and The Wall Street Journal.
