Jon Miller

Jon Miller is an acclaimed sportscaster best known as the longtime play-by-play announcer for the San Francisco Giants. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Miller grew up in Hayward listening to Giants greats like Lon Simmons and Russ Hodges on the radio, and his love for the game and its storytelling began at an early age. As a child he honed his craft by narrating his own Strat-O-Matic games into a tape recorder, imagining himself in the broadcast booth.

Miller’s professional career in baseball broadcasting spans nearly five decades. He began in 1974 calling games for the Oakland Athletics, then held play-by-play roles with the Texas Rangers (1978–79), Boston Red Sox (1980–82), and a long stint with the Baltimore Orioles from 1983–1996. He also became a familiar national voice through his two-decade run as the lead play-by-play announcer for ESPN’s "Sunday Night Baseball" (1990–2010).

In 1997, Miller returned to his Bay Area roots when he joined the Giants’ broadcast team, where he has been a central voice on radio and regional telecasts ever since. His rich voice, encyclopedic knowledge, and genuine enthusiasm have made him one of baseball’s most respected narrators, calling memorable moments ranging from Barry Bonds’ record-breaking home runs to multiple Giants World Series championships.

In 2010, Miller received the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame — one of the highest honors for a baseball broadcaster — and in 2014 he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
