Jon Fussell

Jon Fussell is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL lieutenant commander whose two-decade military career placed him at the forefront of American special operations forces. Over 20 years of service, Fussell led special mission units on hundreds of direct-action combat missions across eight deployments. He completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training and served as a sniper and tactical communicator at SEAL Team Four before attending Officer Candidate School, earning his commission, and returning to the SEAL Teams as an officer. Fussell held leadership positions as platoon and task unit commander at SEAL Teams Three, Ten, Four, and SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team Two, and later served as troop commander and operations officer at Joint Special Operations Command's Naval Special Warfare Development Group.

Fussell led combat missions in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, including national-level assignments and the formation of the first U.S.-led personal security detail for the president of Iraq. His awards include four Bronze Stars with Valor and two Presidential Unit Citations. Fussell's military training encompasses diving, parachuting, mountaineering, communications, weaponry, and mini-sub piloting and navigation. He earned a master's degree in defense analysis from Naval Postgraduate School.

While pursuing his master's degree, Fussell and his team partnered with Fortune 500 companies to compose a thesis on identifying, grooming, and retaining high-potential leaders within organizations. This work contributed to the creation of The Honor Foundation, a nonprofit supporting veterans of the special operations community in their transition to civilian careers. Fussell is co-author of "High Value Talent: Identifying, Developing, and Retaining Naval Special Warfare's Best Leaders." He also studied leadership in the public sector through executive education programs at Harvard and Oxford, trained as a life coach, and received an Investment Foundations Certification from CFA Institute.

As founder of Patriot Leadership Development, Fussell applies battlefield scenarios to teach executives about ethical decision-making, operational clarity, and leadership under pressure. His focus includes talent identification, operational efficiency, stakeholder engagement, and strategic leadership. Fussell leads high-performance leadership experiences, including "Case Study Alpha," which have served as fundraisers for Children of Valor, an organization supporting the children of Naval Special Warfare personnel. As a keynote speaker and podcast guest, Fussell shares insights on military leadership, decision-making, resilience, and high-performance team culture with business audiences worldwide.
