Johnny Reid

Johnny Reid is a Scottish-Canadian country music singer-songwriter known for his distinctive voice and personal storytelling. Over a career spanning three decades, Reid has built a significant presence in the Canadian music industry, recognized for his songwriting and musical versatility across country, pop, and rock genres. His catalog includes hit songs and platinum-selling albums, and he has received 28 Canadian Country Music Awards, five JUNO Awards, and has completed multiple national arena tours.

Reid began his music career in his early twenties, releasing the independent debut album, "Another Day, Another Dime." His third studio album, "Born to Roll," achieved platinum certification in Canada, reached No. 5 on the Canadian Top Country Albums chart, and included his first top 10 single, "Missing an Angel." The fourth studio album, "Kicking Stones," recorded at Metalworks Studios in Mississauga, Ontario, was nominated for a Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year and certified double platinum in Canada. "Dance with Me" debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian Country Album charts, reached No. 3 on the Canadian Albums charts, was certified gold within 48 hours of release, and later achieved triple platinum status in Canada.

"A Place Called Love," Reid's sixth album and his first with EMI Records Canada, remained at No. 1 on the Canadian albums chart for four weeks and was certified double platinum. The subsequent album, "Fire It Up," featured collaborations with Serena Ryder and Carolyn Dawn Johnson, and earned Reid a Juno Award for Country Album of the Year. Produced by Bob Ezrin, "A Christmas Gift to You" reached double-platinum status and won the Juno Award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year. Reid was named Male Artist of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards in consecutive years.

Reid released "Revival" with Universal Music Canada, an album featuring 13 original songs that marked a shift toward soul influences and received two JUNO Award nominations for Album of the Year and Adult Contemporary Album of the Year. His 11th studio album, "Love Someone," was also released through Universal Music Canada. Reid's philanthropic work has been recognized with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award. He performed at Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill attended by the Queen and Prince Philip.

Reid completed a renovation of Randy Scruggs's recording studio in Nashville, reopening it as Soultrain Sound Studios. In addition to his music career, Reid co-wrote the music, book, and lyrics for the musical "Maggie," based on his grandmother's life in the Scottish mining town of Lanarkshire. The musical premiered at Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, Ontario, and was later staged at the Charlottetown Festival, the Savoy Theatre, and the Goodspeed Opera House in the United States. Reid's journey from Scotland to a leading role in Canadian country music highlights his commitment to songwriting, music production, and storytelling.
