John Ternus

John Ternus is the CEO of Apple and serves on its board of directors, becoming the company's eighth chief executive. His appointment marked a transition from Tim Cook's operations-focused leadership to a CEO with a background in product development and engineering. Ternus holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where he designed a device enabling quadriplegics to manipulate a mechanical arm using head movements. Before joining Apple, he worked as a mechanical engineer at Virtual Research Systems, gaining early experience with virtual reality technology.

Ternus joined Apple's product design team and advanced to vice president of Hardware Engineering before joining the executive team as senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. He initially contributed to the Apple Cinema Display and expanded his responsibilities across the company's major product lines. Ternus has been involved in the development of every generation and model of iPad, and as hardware engineering lead, he has overseen the AirPods, iPad, Mac, iPhone, and Apple Watch hardware divisions.

During his tenure, Ternus has overseen hardware engineering for a range of products and played a key role in the introduction of new product lines, including iPad and AirPods, as well as multiple generations of iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. He was central to the transition of the Mac to Apple Silicon, a significant architecture shift in the technology industry. Ternus also contributed to the development of the "MacBook Neo," a more affordable laptop model designed with cost-effective hardware solutions. He has led initiatives focused on reliability, durability, and sustainability, introducing new techniques and materials, such as a recycled aluminum compound, to reduce the carbon footprint of Apple products.

Ternus is recognized for his collaborative and informed approach, with deep familiarity with Apple's supply chain and product development processes. He frequently represents Apple at major hardware launches and champions the company's sustainability efforts, including the use of recycled materials and power efficiency.
