John Rosemond

From 1980-1990, John Rosemond was in full-time private practice as a family psychologist. Presently, his time is devoted to speaking and writing. From 1971 to 1979, he worked as a psychologist in Illinois and North Carolina and directed several mental health programs for children. In 1971, John Rosemond earned his M.S. in Psychology from Western Illinois University and was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.

John Rosemond is the Director of The Center for Affirmative Parenting. Located in Gastonia, North Carolina, The Center for Affirmative Parenting is a national parenting resource center whose primary activity is that of providing skillshops and other educational presentations for parents and professionals who work with children and families. The Center also provides print and audio materials on parenting and child development.

John Rosemond's twelfth book, Parenting by The Book, was published in 2007 by Howard Books, a Simon and Schuster imprint. His thirteenth book, The Diseasing of America's Children, is being published by Thomas Nelson Publishers in September, 2008. John Rosemond is also the author of eleven other parenting vest-sellers, including Teen-Proofing, Because I Said So, A Family of Value, To Spank or Not to Spank, Making the "Terrible" Twos Terrific!, The NEW Parent Power!, Ending the Homework Hassle, and John Rosemond's NEW Six Point Plan for Raising Happy, Healthy Children (all published by Andrews and McMeel). John Rosemond's nationally syndicated column appears in more than 200 newspapers from coast-to-coast, reaching more than 10 million readers weekly and can also be found on his website. John Rosemond is a regularly featured columnist for Signs of the Times magazine.

John Rosemond is one of America's most in demand public speakers, and the busiest by far, in the parenting field. In a typical year, John gives more than 200 presentations to parent, teacher, and helping-professional groups nationwide. His talks and workshops – which are filled with humor, factual information, and practical advice – receive consistently superlative ratings.

In 1999, John Rosemond was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award, Western Illinois University in recognition of distinguished accomplishments in his professional life and outstanding service in community affairs. In 1998, John Rosemond's column "Living With Children" won first place in the Standing column category of the Evangelical Press Association. John Rosemond was the 1986 recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award, Western Illinois University. In 1985, Governor Jim Martin appointed John to the North Carolina Day Care commission. In 1981, John Rosemond was selected "Professional of the Year" by the Mecklenburg County Mental Health Association of Charlotte, North Carolina. From 1980 to 1990, John was a member of the teaching faculty at the Department of Pediatrics and Family Practice, Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina.

John Rosemond and his wife, Willie, live in Gastonia, North Carolina. Their two children, Eric and Amy, are responsible adults and wonderful parents. Eric, a corporate pilot, is married to Nancy; they have four sons. Amy, a homemaker, is married to Marshall; they have two sons and a daughter.
