Joey McGuire

Joey McGuire is an American football coach known for his impact on both Texas high school football and the Big 12 Conference. A native Texan with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas at Arlington, McGuire began his coaching career at the high school level, spending 14 seasons at Cedar Hill High School. During his tenure, he compiled a 141-42 record, won three Texas state championships, secured seven district titles, and led the Longhorns to 12 consecutive playoff appearances. Under McGuire's leadership, Cedar Hill produced 95 Division I athletes and six NFL players.

McGuire was recognized as a three-time state champion and a nine-time Texas state high school coach of the year. He received the Dallas Cowboys High School Coach of the Year Award following Cedar Hill's first playoff run. McGuire is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor and the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. He also coached the Under Armour All-American games nine times and served as head coach of the Semper Fi All-American Bowl.

Transitioning to college football, McGuire joined Baylor University, where he served as associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and tight ends coach. He contributed to the Bears' Big 12 Conference championship season and helped develop four NFL Draft selections. McGuire also served as interim head coach during a coaching transition.

McGuire became the 17th head coach in Texas Tech football history. In his first season, he led the Red Raiders to victories over the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners and guided the team to its first winning conference season in more than a decade. McGuire is the first head coach in program history to lead Texas Tech to a bowl victory in each of his first two seasons, with wins in the TaxAct Texas Bowl and the Radiant Technologies Independence Bowl.

Under McGuire, Texas Tech achieved its first outright conference championship since 1955 and made its inaugural College Football Playoff appearance. The Red Raiders recorded a school-record 12 wins and an 8-1 Big 12 record, marking four consecutive bowl appearances. Multiple Texas Tech players have been selected in the NFL Draft during McGuire's tenure, highlighting his player development and recruiting expertise. McGuire is recognized for his culture-building approach and ability to drive program success at both the high school and collegiate levels.
