Joe Moglia

Joe Moglia is recognized for his achievements in both finance and college football, having built a career that spans Wall Street leadership and collegiate athletics. Moglia began his professional journey on the football sidelines, winning two Ivy League championships as defensive coordinator at Dartmouth and setting defensive and special teams records at Lafayette, while also revitalizing two high school programs.

After more than a decade in coaching, Moglia transitioned to finance. He was one of 26 individuals selected for the MBA Training Program at Merrill Lynch, where he became the top producer globally. During his 17-year tenure at Merrill Lynch, he served on the executive committees for both the institutional and private client businesses. Moglia later became chief executive officer at Ameritrade Holding Corp, now TD Ameritrade. Under his leadership, the company saw client assets grow from $24 billion to more than $300 billion, market capitalization increase from $700 million to $12 billion, and five consecutive years of record earnings. Shareholders experienced a 500 percent return during his time as CEO. Moglia subsequently became Chairman of the Board, resigning when the merger with Charles Schwab Corporation was announced. At the time of the merger, the combined company was valued at $100 billion with client assets of $7 trillion.

Moglia returned to football after his tenure as CEO, serving as Chairman of the Board and joining the University of Nebraska as Executive Advisor to the Head Football Coach. During his two seasons at Nebraska, the Cornhuskers won two Big 12 North championships and played in the Holiday Bowl each season. Moglia was also recognized by Nebraska football student-athletes with the U.S. Grant Sharp Admiral's Trophy for Leadership and Service. He later became head coach at Coastal Carolina University, leading the team to the National Playoffs in each of his first five seasons, earning four conference championships, and finishing with an overall record of 56–22. As a head coach, Moglia received multiple Coach of the Year honors, including the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year Award, the Vince Lombardi Award, and induction into the Lombardi Hall of Fame.

Moglia's accomplishments extend beyond sports and finance. He is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Sharp Trophy for Leadership. He is one of only four alumni in Fordham University history to receive the Fordham Founders Award, induction into the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame, and induction into Fordham's Hall of Honor. Moglia is a member of the National Economics Honor Society, holds three honorary doctorates, and has delivered nine commencement addresses. As an author, he has published books on both football and investing, including "The Key to Winning Football: The Perimeter Attack Offense" and "Coach Yourself to Financial Success: Winning the Investment Game." His autobiography, "4th and Goal" by Monte Burke, is in development for a film with Strong Studios.

Moglia remains active as an entrepreneur and executive leadership speaker. He co-founded Fundamental Global Investors and has served as chairman. He is the former head football coach and Chairman Emeritus of Athletics at Coastal Carolina University, where he currently serves as Executive Advisor to the President. Moglia's "BAM" leadership philosophy, emphasizing personal accountability, integrity, and decisive action, is a central theme of his speaking engagements and leadership development programs, providing a framework for success across industries.
