Joe Kernen

Joe Kernen is co-anchor of "Squawk Box," CNBC's signature morning program. The show offers a fast-paced look at the world of Wall Street and is the longest-running program on the network. Kernen is based at CNBC's global headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

Before his anchoring role, Kernen served as CNBC's on-air stock editor and appeared throughout the business day on the network, providing financial news and market analysis.

Kernen joined CNBC through the merger with Financial News Network, following a decade-long career as a stockbroker. After training at Merrill Lynch, he advanced to vice president at both EF Hutton and Smith Barney. He specialized in managing corporate cash accounts and qualified retirement plans for small- to medium-sized corporations, as well as overseeing key employees' personal assets.

Kernen holds a bachelor's degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from the University of Colorado and a master's degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During his graduate studies, he worked at the MIT Center for Cancer Research, focusing on mouse erythroleukemia cells. His research resulted in publications in scientific journals including CELL, Developmental Biology and Cold Spring Harbor Symposia on Quantitative Biology.
