Jodi Kantor

Jodi Kantor is a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter and bestselling author whose work at The New York Times has influenced public discourse on power, gender, technology, and culture. As a correspondent for The New York Times, Kantor has reported extensively on workplace dynamics, technology, and gender issues. She is recognized as one of the youngest individuals to edit a section of The New York Times, having served as the Arts & Leisure editor before transitioning to reporting. Kantor began her journalism career at Slate.com and later joined The Times. Her path to journalism included being removed from Columbia University's independent newspaper and attending Harvard Law School, which she left to pursue reporting.

From 2007 to 2013, Kantor covered President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for The New York Times, exploring their biographies, family life, marriage, faith, and approach to the White House, as well as covering the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. Her book, "The Obamas," examines the couple's adjustment to their roles in the White House. Kantor's reporting during this period included a cover story in New York Times Magazine about the Obamas' marriage, featuring interviews with both the president and first lady in the Oval Office.

Kantor, alongside fellow Times reporter Megan Twohey, broke the story documenting decades of sexual harassment and abuse allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein. Their investigative journalism included accounts from multiple accusers, internal records, and settlements that had concealed Weinstein's actions. This reporting contributed to a global reckoning on sexual misconduct, influencing victims to come forward and prompting changes in workplace policies across industries. The New York Times received the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for this work, sharing the honor with Ronan Farrow at The New Yorker. Kantor and Twohey co-authored the book "She Said," which was recognized by several major publications and adapted into a film by Plan B Entertainment.

Kantor's investigative reporting has led to tangible changes in corporate and public policy. Her article on automated scheduling systems at Starbucks contributed to company reforms and the broader fair-scheduling movement. Reporting with David Streitfeld on Amazon's workplace practices led to the introduction of paternity leave at the company. Kantor has also reported on the Supreme Court, including the decision to overturn the constitutional right to abortion and the investigation into the leak of that opinion, as well as efforts by anti-abortion activists to influence the Court.
