Joby Warrick

Joby Warrick is a bestselling author and national security correspondent whose career has placed him at the forefront of significant stories in journalism. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Warrick served with The Washington Post's national and investigative staffs for nearly three decades, reporting from Washington and numerous cities worldwide. He contributed to the Post's investigative and national security teams, covering topics such as the Middle East, terrorism, and weapons proliferation. Before joining the Post, Warrick worked as a reporter for United Press International and was appointed UPI bureau chief in Vienna, Austria, where he covered the fall of the Berlin Wall, the overthrow of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu, and the collapse of communist regimes in the former East Bloc.

Warrick earned his first Pulitzer Prize as an investigative reporter for The News & Observer of Raleigh, N.C., where he co-authored "Boss Hog," a series documenting the political and environmental impact of factory farming in the Southeast. At The Washington Post, his reporting included early coverage questioning the Bush administration's claims about aluminum tubes in Iraq and their use in uranium centrifuges. His first book, "The Triple Agent," recounts the true story of an al-Qaeda spy who led the CIA into a deadly trap at Khost, Afghanistan. His second book, "Black Flags," details the rise of the Islamic State and was recognized by the New York Times, The Washington Post, and San Francisco Chronicle, and awarded a Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction. In "Red Line," Warrick examines America's mission in Syria to locate and destroy chemical weapons and prevent their acquisition by the Islamic State.

In "The Jackal," Warrick chronicles Carlos the Jackal's career, highlighting the development of modern terrorism through hijackings, hostage crises, bombings, and international assassinations. Drawing on declassified archives, secret police files, eyewitness accounts, and an interview with Carlos, Warrick explores the legacy of borderless terrorist attacks designed for broadcast media.
