Joachim Hensch

Joachim Hensch is a recognized leader in apparel manufacturing and digital transformation, with expertise developed through hands-on experience on the factory floor. Hensch began his career in bespoke tailoring and built a reputation for integrating technology and innovation to enhance operational efficiency and workforce empowerment. Over more than two decades at HUGO BOSS, he advanced from product development to Managing Director of the company’s Izmir, Turkey facility, one of the largest in the HUGO BOSS Group. In this role, Hensch led the digital transformation of the factory, implementing Industry 4.0 technologies to create a flexible and responsive smart factory environment.

At the Izmir facility, Hensch oversaw the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence to optimize production lines, while prioritizing the close collaboration of employees. The factory adopted advanced manufacturing technologies to improve flexibility, forecasting, and employee skill development. Hensch’s approach emphasized the importance of understanding processes and defining problems before selecting technological solutions, highlighting the necessity of accurate data for effective artificial intelligence applications in manufacturing.

Hensch later founded Joachim Hensch Consulting, focusing on transforming traditional manufacturing operations into adaptable smart factories powered by Industry 4.0 principles. Through GEMBA walks, he evaluates factories across four dimensions: machines, people, processes, and products. Hensch works with owners and leadership teams to develop structured transformation agendas, establishing clear priorities, leadership routines, milestones, and measurable outcomes. His consulting engagements span global markets, including India, and involve strategic workshops for manufacturing groups of varying sizes.

Hensch has shared his insights at industry conferences, on podcasts, and as a speaker at TEDxBergamo with the talk "Smart Factory? Smart People?" He advocates for the creation of digital twins to enhance predictive capabilities and proactive management in manufacturing. Hensch’s philosophy centers on the belief that successful digital transformation requires engaging all levels of an organization, ensuring that technological advancements are accessible and beneficial to every employee.
