Jina Anne

Jina Anne is a recognized leader in the design systems field, bringing nearly two decades of expertise to the discipline. Anne has been involved in web design for about 30 years and has worked professionally in the industry for 22 years, with 19 years focused on design systems. As a designer who codes and works with no-code tools, Anne specializes in design systems, tools, and processes, with a focus on improving collaboration and communication within product design and development teams.

Anne's career includes roles at major technology companies. Early in their career, Anne led CSS architecture and style guide development for the Apple Online Store remodel, which included the launch of the first iPhone and oversight of web standards across global store instances. At Salesforce, Anne was the founding designer on the Salesforce Lightning Design System and contributed to the creation of design tokens, influencing industry standards for design systems. At Google, Anne managed design and developer advocates for Material Design, and at Asana managed the design systems team, expanding it to include accessibility, visual design, and mobile foundations. Anne has also served as Principal Product Designer at Microsoft, focusing on design systems.

In addition to corporate roles, Anne has contributed to the design systems community by founding Clarity, a design systems community conference, and managing the Design Systems Slack. Anne also founded the Design Systems Coalition and its San Francisco chapter, created and moderated the Design Systems Slack and the Design Systems publication on Medium, and established the Design Systems Jobs board. Anne co-chairs the Design Tokens Community Group and, as a member of the Sass core team, leads brand and website design and development. Anne is recognized as a Google Developers Expert in web technologies.

Anne is a co-author of the "Design Systems Handbook" (DesignBetter.Co by InVision), "Fancy Form Design" (SitePoint), and "The Art & Science of CSS" (SitePoint). Anne has written articles for A List Apart, 24 Ways, The Pastry Box, Sitepoint, net Magazine, and Treehouse. Anne has been featured in net Magazine and Print Magazine as a leading San Francisco creative.

Anne has spoken at more than 200 conferences, including keynote presentations at Design Systems London, Design Systems Conference Helsinki, CSS Dev Conf, and ConvergeSE, and has been a featured speaker at No-Code Conf, AIGA Design Conference, and Adobe MAX. Through public speaking, writing, and community leadership, Anne continues to influence the design and engineering industries, advocating for openness, inclusivity, and cross-functional collaboration as essential elements of effective design systems.
