Jim Walker

Dr. Jim Walker is a macroeconomist recognized for his independent analysis of the Asia-Pacific region and global financial markets. Walker holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree and a doctorate in economics from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Before his work in Asia, he served as a research fellow at the Fraser of Allander Institute for Research on the Scottish Economy and later worked at The Royal Bank of Scotland's Edinburgh headquarters.

Prior to founding Asianomics Group Limited, Walker was the chief economist at CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets. He worked at CLSA for more than 16 years, developing a reputation for non-consensus economic analysis. He was voted best regional economist by the Asiamoney Stockbrokers Poll for several years and was recognized in the private Greenwich Surveys of fund managers in Asia, Europe, and America. Walker also serves on the MasterCard Worldwide MasterIntelligence Knowledge Panel.

Walker is the founder and chief economist of Asianomics Group Limited, an economics and strategy research consultancy serving the fund management industry. Based in Hong Kong, Asianomics specializes in economic analysis, cross-referencing research with credit cycles, profit cycles, and cash flows, focusing on developments in the Asia-Pacific region and also covering developed markets such as the United States and Europe. The firm's research is grounded in the Austrian Economics model. Asianomics was acquired by Aletheia Capital, where Walker continues as chief economist.

Walker is known for accurate forecasting in macroeconomic trends. He wrote about the prospect of Asia being forced off its de facto dollar peg prior to the Asian financial crisis and is recognized for forecasting the U.S. downturn and financial sector challenges in his series of "Apocalypse" reports. He has also published "Asia Connected" and "World War Three" strategy reports and identified early trends in the Indian stock market.
