Jim O'Heir

Jim O'Heir is an American actor and comedian whose career spans Chicago improv, network television, film, and publishing. O'Heir began as a radio DJ in Indiana before studying improv at Chicago's Second City, where he co-founded the theater troupe White Noise. As part of White Noise, he appeared in plays such as "The Book of Blanche," "Stumpy's Gang," and "Ad-Nauseam," earning recognition for his character-driven performances. After starring in a number of variety shows, plays, and one-act black comedies, O'Heir transitioned to television with a role as a sanitarium orderly in the TV movie adaptation of Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, "Harvey." This early work established his presence in front of the camera.

Best known for playing Jerry Gergich in "Parks and Recreation", O'Heir has appeared in more than 50 prime-time series. He originally auditioned for the role of Ron Swanson before being cast as Jerry Gergich, a clumsy employee at a local government parks department who is routinely mocked by his co-workers under various names. The character became a notable underdog in television comedy, and O'Heir's comedic timing and warmth contributed to the show's ensemble dynamic. The episode "Park Safety," which centers on Jerry, drew positive reviews for O'Heir's performance. His film credits include co-starring with Jeff Bridges, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Chris Hemsworth in Fox's mystery thriller "Bad Times at the El Royale." O'Heir has also appeared in a range of projects, including guest roles on "Running Point," "Doctor Odyssey," "Murdaugh: Death in the Family," and "Rooster."

O'Heir replaced Rob Lowe as co-host of the "Parks and Recollection" podcast, a "Parks and Recreation" recap show that blends behind-the-scenes anecdotes, cast reflections, and analysis of themes such as small-town bureaucracy and ensemble dynamics. He has also authored the book "Welcome to Pawnee: Stories of Friendship, Waffles, and Parks and Recreation," a memoir of his time on the show.
