Jim Lee

Jim Lee is a Korean-born artist, writer, editor, and publisher recognized for his significant contributions to the American comic book industry. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Princeton University, Lee began his professional career at Marvel Comics. His work on X-Men set the all-time sales record for single-issue sales, with 8 million copies sold in one month. Lee illustrated titles such as "Alpha Flight" and "The Punisher War Journal" before gaining widespread attention for his work on "The Uncanny X-Men," where he collaborated with writer Chris Claremont and co-created the character Gambit. The debut issue of "X-Men" #1, which Lee penciled and co-wrote, remains the best-selling comic book of all time.

Lee later founded WildStorm Productions and co-founded Image Comics, which became a leading independent comics publisher in North America. Through WildStorm, Lee published titles including "WildC.A.T.s" and "Gen¹³." As a co-founder of Image Comics and creator of WildStorm Productions, Lee contributed to expanding creator rights for writers and artists. He eventually sold WildStorm to DC Comics, where he continued to oversee the imprint and illustrate titles within the DC universe.

At DC Comics, Lee served as editorial director and later as publisher, overseeing WildStorm Studios and illustrating bestselling comic books and graphic novels such as "All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder," "Batman: Hush," and "Superman: For Tomorrow." He played a key role in launching the "New 52" initiative, which relaunched DC's superhero line with new #1 issues and introduced updated costume designs for characters including Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The design of Henry Cavill's Superman in "Man of Steel" is based on Lee's work.

Lee advanced to become president, publisher, and chief creative officer of DC Comics. In addition to his work in comics, he has contributed as a designer and creative director for DC products such as action figures, video games, and branded merchandise. Lee has also participated in industry discussions on topics such as creator rights and the impact of artificial intelligence on art.

Throughout his career, Lee has received recognition including the Harvey Special Award for New Talent, the Inkpot Award, the Wizard Fan Award, and induction into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame. His influence extends across comic book art, publishing, and creative direction, shaping the superhero genre and the broader comic book industry.
