Jermaine Wiggins is a former NFL tight end whose journey from undrafted free agent to Super Bowl champion is recognized as a significant chapter in New England Patriots history. Wiggins played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs and signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. Before joining the Patriots, he contributed to one of the most notable games in Monday Night Football history, participating in the "Monday Night Miracle" against the Miami Dolphins, where he caught a touchdown pass from Vinny Testaverde as the Jets overcame a 30–7 fourth-quarter deficit to win in overtime, 40–37. Later that season, he was released and signed with the New England Patriots.
After a quiet regular season with 14 receptions, Wiggins became a key part of the Patriots' passing attack in the playoffs. He is known among Patriots fans for his 10-catch, 68-yard performance in the AFC Divisional Round overtime victory against the Raiders. He also caught a seven-yard pass during the Patriots' final Super Bowl drive, setting up the game-winning field goal. Wiggins earned a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI over the St. Louis Rams. Over his NFL career, he recorded 236 receptions, 2,141 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns. Wiggins later signed with the Carolina Panthers, winning an NFC Championship, before spending three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He was denied a second Super Bowl ring when the Panthers lost to his former team, the Patriots, in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
After retiring from professional football, Wiggins transitioned into sports media, holding positions at Boston outlets such as CSN New England, WBZ, and WHDH. He frequently appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub alongside Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti, serving primarily as an NFL analyst and also covering other Boston sports news. Wiggins co-hosts the Greg Hill Morning Show and makes appearances on the Gresh and Fauria mid-day show on sports radio WEEI in Boston. He also hosts his own podcast and was featured in the Netflix documentary "Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez."
Wiggins is available for speaking engagements, community events, and youth programs across New England. He remains active with the Patriots Charitable Foundation. His story, from undrafted prospect to Super Bowl champion and Boston media personality, offers insight into perseverance, teamwork, and the dynamics of NFL success.
