Jennifer Weiss-Wolf

At the fore of commentary and advocacy is Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, a leading voice for equitable menstrual policy in America. She is the executive director of the Birnbaum Women’s Leadership Center (BWLC).

Bustle named her one of the nation’s “badass menstrual activists.” Newsweek deemed her the “architect of the U.S. policy campaign to squash the tampon tax.” NYC Council Member Julissa Ferreras said she “catapulted menstrual equity into a national conversation…the advocate every cause hopes for.”

Weiss-Wolf is the author "Periods Gone Public," which tells the full story of the emerging political movement for menstrual equity. She is soon to publish, "Generation Menopause: A User’s Manual and Citizen’s Guide" (Hachette US - Sheldon Press, 2026). Her other books include, "Citizen's Guide To Menopause Advocacy" (with Dr. Mary Claire Haver), "50 Years of Ms.: The Best of the Pathfinding Magazine That Ignited a Revolution" (ed. with Katherine Spillar), "Palgrave Handbook of Critical Menstruation Studies" (ed. with Dr. Chris Bobel, Inga Winkler et al.), and "Period: Twelve Voices Tell the Bloody Truth" (ed. with Kate Farrell et al.).

Her four-part series in The New York Times shed new light on the issue here at home and globally, as have her op-eds in TIME, Bloomberg, Newsweek, New York Daily News, Cosmo, The Nation, Ms. Magazine and others. She is cited widely in the media, including by The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Cosmo, Newsweek, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, Essence, Upworthy, Mic, VICE, CNN, NPR, MSNBC and Yahoo Health, as well as by experts at the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Kinsey Institute.

In partnership with Cosmo community, Weiss-Wolf spearheaded the first U.S. “No Tax on Tampons” change . org petition, which now has more than 60,000 signatures.

By day, Weiss-Wolf is a vice president of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law. She serves on the Boards of Support the Girls and Girls Helping Girls.
