Jen Welter

Dr. Jen Welter is recognized for her pioneering contributions to American football, achieving several historic milestones in the sport. Before entering men's professional football, Welter completed a 14-year career in women's professional football, earning four World Championships, two gold medals with Team USA at the IFAF Women's World Championship, and eight All-Star selections. She became the first woman to play running back in a men's professional football season with the Texas Revolution and later served as linebacker and special teams coach for the Indoor Football League's Texas Revolution, marking another first for women in the sport.

Welter became the first female coach in NFL history when she coached the Arizona Cardinals' inside linebackers during training camp. She contributed to the Arizona Cardinals' NFC West division title and established strong professional relationships with players. Following her tenure with the Cardinals, Welter was named head coach of the first Australian women's national team and was inducted into the inaugural class of the Women's Football Hall of Fame.

Holding a master's in sports psychology and a doctorate in psychology, Welter applies her expertise to athlete development, leadership, and team dynamics. She designed the "A Day in the Life" Camp, which debuted with the Washington Redskins women's program, and founded Grrridiron Girls, a movement focused on building confidence in girls through football.

Welter is also known as the first female coach featured in Madden and is a keynote speaker on topics such as breaking barriers, leadership, and mental toughness. Her experiences inspired the TV show "First & Goals" and the book "Play Big," where she discusses her journey in the NFL. In collaboration with Brooke Foley, Welter co-created the "Critter Fitter" book series, which addresses social, emotional, and physical wellness for children. Welter continues to influence the football industry and sports leadership through her speaking engagements, coaching, and advocacy for women in sports.
