Jeffrey E. Gundlach

Jeffrey E. Gundlach is a prominent figure in global finance, recognized for his expertise in fixed-income investing and asset management. Gundlach graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College with degrees in mathematics and philosophy, and attended Yale University for doctoral studies in mathematics before transitioning to a career in finance.

He joined TCW Group in the mid-1980s, initially working as a portfolio manager with a focus on quantitative analysis. Over a tenure spanning more than two decades, Gundlach specialized in mortgage-backed securities and fixed-income strategies, establishing a reputation as a leading bond investor. As head of the TCW Total Return Bond Fund, he managed $9.3 billion in assets and consistently ranked among the top performers in intermediate-term bond funds over a 10-year period. Gundlach was among the few investors to accurately predict the credit crisis, warning early about the risks in the subprime mortgage market. His foresight enabled him to protect client assets during the ensuing financial crisis, contributing to his reputation as a successful investor. Gundlach founded DoubleLine, an investment management firm specializing in fixed-income strategies, with a team of former colleagues. Starting with no assets under management, DoubleLine grew rapidly, reaching $150 billion in assets and becoming one of the fastest-growing firms in the industry. The firm later relocated its headquarters from Los Angeles to Tampa, Florida, and expanded its offerings to include exchange-traded funds such as DoubleLine Opportunistic Bond ETF and DoubleLine Shiller CAPE US Equities ETF. DoubleLine manages approximately $93 billion in assets, focusing on total return strategies in mortgage-backed securities, corporate debt, and emerging markets bonds.
