Jeff Rothbart

Jeffrey S. Rothbart is a real estate expert witness, licensed attorney, and commercial real estate executive with more than two decades of experience in the real estate industry. Rothbart has direct involvement in commercial and residential real estate, including property valuation, asset management, and real estate investment. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Emory University, a Juris Doctor from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, and an LL.M. in taxation from Northwestern University. He has completed certificate programs in hotel real estate investments and asset management from Cornell University and real estate investment and development from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business.

Rothbart has participated in over $3 billion in commercial and residential real estate transactions nationwide. He has valued more than $4 billion in real estate, disposed of over $1.75 billion in assets, and formed more than $200 million in real estate joint ventures. His management experience includes overseeing more than 11 million square feet of commercial real estate assets and securing over $500 million in equity and debt investments. Rothbart’s career includes roles such as vice president of capital markets at EPN Investment Management and co-founder and principal at Boulder Net Lease Funds, where he raised more than $250 million in equity and debt for office and industrial acquisitions.

As an expert witness, Rothbart has been retained in more than 225 real estate matters, delivered over 175 written expert reports, participated in more than 90 depositions, and testified in over 35 trials across the United States. He handles real estate litigation involving valuation and damages, partnership and joint-venture disputes, brokerage standards of care, real estate financing and lender liability, title and survey disputes, and landlord-tenant and leasing disputes. His clients include municipalities, public REITs, Fortune 100 companies, governmental agencies, universities, insurance companies, bankruptcy creditors, equity investors, developers, general contractors, property owners, tenants, and individual homeowners.

Rothbart is a licensed attorney in Illinois, holds an LL.M. in taxation, and serves as an adjunct professor of law at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is also a licensed Illinois real estate broker and a certified mediator from the National Association of Certified Mediators. Rothbart has published more than 40 articles on commercial real estate investments and markets, which have been cited in over 100 publications. He has participated in the PwC Korpacz Real Estate Investor Survey and previously held LEED-AP for New Construction v2.2 and NASD/FINRA Series 22 and 63 licenses. Rothbart’s background spans legal, academic, and operational aspects of real estate, supporting his role in real estate litigation and investment analysis.
