Jeff Gordon

Jeff Gordon is recognized as a significant figure in professional motorsport, noted for his influence on the growth and mainstream appeal of NASCAR. Gordon began his racing career at age 5, competing in quarter midget events. He later secured the USAC National Midget Series championship and the USAC Silver Crown championship before transitioning to NASCAR’s premier circuit, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors in his first full season.

Gordon became the youngest driver in the modern era to win a premier series title at age 24 and went on to secure three additional championships. He led his team, the Rainbow Warriors, to a modern era-record 13 wins in one season. Gordon’s career includes 93 race victories, ranking third on NASCAR’s all-time wins list, and he is a three-time Daytona 500 champion and a five-time Brickyard 400 winner. He holds records for road course wins, restrictor-plate wins, and consecutive seasons with at least one pole position, as well as an "Iron Man" streak of 797 consecutive starts.

Gordon’s rivalry with Dale Earnhardt was a defining aspect of his career, with Gordon’s style contrasting with Earnhardt’s approach. His presence in popular culture includes hosting "Saturday Night Live," co-hosting "Live! With Regis and Kelly," and appearances on "The Simpsons," "Spin City," "The Drew Carey Show," "Taxi," "Herbie: Fully Loaded," and "Looney Tunes: Back in Action." Gordon was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame as a first-ballot candidate, receiving the highest percentage of votes in history. In 2026, he was the subject of a new exhibit at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, marking the first time the museum has dedicated an entire exhibit to a single NASCAR driver.

Following his driving career, Gordon joined FOX Sports as a broadcast analyst for NASCAR Cup Series coverage and later became vice chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, overseeing competition and marketing and serving on NASCAR’s team owner council. Off the track, Gordon established the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation, which has contributed more than $27 million to pediatric cancer research, treatment, and patient support programs, and helped found the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital in Concord, North Carolina. He has been recognized with the National Motorsports Press Association Myers Brothers Award and the Heisman Humanitarian Award for his contributions to motorsport and philanthropy.
