Jeff Brohm is a prominent figure in college football, known for his tenure as a quarterback and his leadership as head coach at the University of Louisville. Brohm remains among the program's career leaders in passing categories, and his No. 11 jersey is honored in Louisville's Ring of Honor. He was voted team MVP in both his junior and senior seasons and led Louisville to an 18-7 victory over Michigan State in the Liberty Bowl, completing 19 of 29 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown while playing with two steel pins and one steel plate in the index finger of his throwing hand, earning the game's MVP award. After his collegiate career, Brohm played professionally in the National Football League for seven seasons and in the XFL. He played for the San Francisco 49ers, serving as the backup quarterback to Steve Young.
Brohm transitioned into coaching with roles at the University of Illinois, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Western Kentucky University before becoming head coach of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. At Western Kentucky, he compiled a 30-10 record and led the Hilltoppers to back-to-back Conference USA championships, with the program winning three consecutive bowl games, including the Bahamas Bowl and Miami Beach Bowl. His offenses ranked in the national top 10 in scoring, passing, and total offense in all three seasons. Brohm then became head coach at Purdue University, where he compiled a 36-34 record, led the Boilermakers to four bowl appearances, and captured the Big Ten West Division title, advancing to the Big Ten Football Championship Game and earning a berth in the Citrus Bowl. His tenure included three victories over top 3 opponents—Ohio State, Iowa, and Michigan State—and a nine-win season capped by a 48-45 overtime victory over Tennessee in the Music City Bowl.
Brohm returned to Louisville as head coach, guiding the Cardinals to a 10-4 record and a berth in the ACC Championship Game, making him the first coach in NCAA history to guide two different programs to conference championship game appearances in consecutive seasons. He has led the program to a 28-12 overall record, highlighted by four wins over top 25 opponents, a 24-21 win at Miami, a 35-34 victory over Washington in the Sun Bowl, and the school's first appearance in the ACC Championship. Brohm joins Charlie Strong as the only coaches at Louisville to achieve nine or more wins in three consecutive seasons.
Brohm's coaching career has been marked by recognition and institutional commitment, including an eight-year contract extension with Louisville. With a career coaching record of 94 wins and 56 losses and a bowl record of 7-2, Brohm is recognized for his offensive innovation, program-building skills, and competitive approach in college football.
