Jay Wright

Jay Wright is a college basketball coach known for building Villanova University into a consistent national contender. After playing at Bucknell University, Wright began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Rochester, Drexel University, and Villanova under coach Rollie Massimino, later following Massimino to UNLV. Wright's first head coaching position was at Hofstra University, where he led the team to four America East Conference titles in seven seasons. He then returned to Villanova as head coach, where he established a legacy in NCAA basketball.

Wright led the Wildcats to a record of 520-197 over 21 seasons, including NCAA national championships and multiple Final Four appearances. Under his leadership, Villanova achieved 20 NCAA Tournament victories since 2016, the most in the nation during that period. Wright is a two-time recipient of the Naismith National Coach of the Year Award and the first coach in Big East history to be named Coach of the Year six times. The Associated Press recognized him as Coach of the Decade for the 2010s. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Wright's influence extends beyond college basketball. He served as an assistant coach for Team USA, contributing to a gold medal victory at the Tokyo Olympic Games under Gregg Popovich. His experience at both the collegiate and international levels highlights his expertise in basketball coaching and leadership.

In addition to his coaching career, Wright authored the book "Attitude: Develop a Winning Mindset on and off the Court," sharing insights on leadership, team building, and the competitive environment of college athletics. The book offers perspectives on his coaching philosophy and the values that guided his teams.

Following his coaching tenure, Wright became a college basketball analyst for CBS Sports and TNT Sports, providing analysis and commentary on the sport. He later took on the role of special assistant to the president at Villanova, continuing his involvement with the university and the broader basketball community.
