Jay Ward

Jay Ward is a creative leader in the animation and automotive industries, known for his work at Pixar Animation Studios. Ward joined Pixar when it was a Bay Area startup, beginning his career in feature film production and spending nearly a decade as art department manager. His contributions have influenced the development of numerous Pixar projects and have played a significant role in shaping the studio’s creative direction.

Ward’s expertise in automotive culture became central to his role at Pixar. While working as a production assistant on the film "Cars," he caught the attention of director John Lasseter and became the film’s primary automotive consultant. Ward’s deep knowledge of cars ensured authenticity in the film, from selecting specific vehicle models to compiling reference images for the development team. "Cars" achieved significant box office success, resonating with audiences worldwide.

Ward advanced to become the "Cars" creative director and legacy guardian, as well as creative director of franchise at Pixar. In these roles, he consults on all "Cars"-related projects globally, providing expertise in automotive design, consumer products, interactive media, marketing, publishing, and theme parks. Ward has served as a creative consultant on all three "Cars" films, the Cars Toons, and Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park. He is a frequent judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and contributes to publications such as Hagerty, Magneto, and Linkage. Ward organizes the campus classic car show, the Pixar Motorama, which features vehicles from notable figures in the automotive world.
