Jay Gruden

Jay Michael Gruden is a seasoned football coach and former quarterback. He is widely recognized for his tenure as head coach of the Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders) from 2014 to 2019 and for his contributions as an offensive coordinator in the NFL.

Gruden played football at the University of Louisville, amassing 7,024 passing yards and 44 touchdowns, ranking among the school's all-time leaders in several categories. After college, Gruden played professionally in the World League of American Football and the Arena Football League (AFL), where he achieved notable success, including four Arena Bowl championships as a player and induction into the AFL Hall of Fame.

Gruden began his coaching journey as an offensive coordinator for the Nashville Kats in 1997. He then served as head coach of the Orlando Predators in the AFL, leading the team to two ArenaBowl titles. Transitioning to the NFL, Gruden worked as an offensive assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002 to 2008, earning a Super Bowl ring in 2002.

In 2011, Gruden became the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played a pivotal role in developing quarterback Andy Dalton and guiding the team to three consecutive playoff appearances.

Gruden was appointed head coach of the Washington Redskins in 2014. During his tenure, he led the team to an NFC East title in 2015, marking their first division championship since 2012. Despite this success, his overall record with Washington was 35–49–1, and he was relieved of his duties in 2019 after an 0–5 start to the season.

Following his time in Washington, Gruden served as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. He later worked as an offensive consultant for the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.
