Jay Baughan

Jay Baughan is a social entrepreneur and solutions architect with a career focused on human development, community resilience, and socioeconomic impact. Early in his career, Baughan held leadership roles in military, commercial, and management consulting sectors before transitioning to independent work aimed at driving social change. His experience spans diverse and challenging environments, providing insight into human behavior, community breakdown, and the factors necessary for sustainable recovery.

Baughan is the founder of the Social Emotional Development Institute, where he established a global framework for building specialist capability in social emotional development within communities. He developed a regulated knowledge-to-practice professional qualification that sets a quality standard for resilience-building and has conducted research on youth resilience as emotional capital in the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Ghana, and Nigeria. His TEDx talk on youth resilience explored the concept that resilience can be nurtured and highlighted the importance of measuring core social emotional skills to empower young people.

In the United Kingdom, Baughan introduced structural solutions for community investment, including the Social Impact Register, a tool designed to transform how counties recognize and utilize supplier social value in public contracts. This initiative aims to redirect public procurement spending to better support charities, foundations, and community services. Baughan's work also includes reengineering brand marketing into community-measured brand social value and influencing regional policy to support long-term community agendas.

Internationally, Baughan has advised governments and developed intellectual property to support socioeconomic development in Africa and the Middle East. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, founder of the Bastion Baton military charity, and serves as a trustee and advocate for organizations focused on youth violence prevention, female advancement, and community restoration.
