Javy Lopez Biography
Javy López is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) catcher and three-time All-Star who became one of the most accomplished players in Atlanta Braves history. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, López was signed by the Braves as an amateur free agent in 1987 and spent the majority of his 15-year MLB career with Atlanta.
López was an integral part of the Braves' dominant teams of the 1990s and early 2000s, helping Atlanta win the 1995 World Series. In 2003, he had a remarkable season, batting .328 with 43 home runs and 109 RBIs and setting an MLB record for home runs by a catcher at the time. He finished fifth in National League MVP voting and was selected to his third All-Star team.
After leaving Atlanta, López played for the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox before retiring in 2006. He finished his career with a .287 batting average, 260 home runs, and 864 RBIs. He was inducted into the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame in 2014.
